Andrade Encourages Constituents to Participate in National Blood Donor Month

Jan 9, 2015

CHICAGO - State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, is encouraging constituents to join him in raising awareness of the benefits of giving blood in honor of National Blood Donor Month this January. In an effort to increase turnout at area drives, Andrade is highlighting the importance of the lifesaving contributions of the nearly 11 million people who give blood each year.

“Winter weather has a drastic effect on blood donation turnout, but the need for this vital act of service never changes,” said Andrade. “I hope that we can come together and start the year off right, to make it possible for community members to receive the emergency care they need.”

Andrade encourages his constituents to donate at the nearest upcoming collection at Northeastern Illinois University, located at 5500 N. St. Louis Avenue in Chicago. The drive will occur on Wednesday, January 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and as an added incentive, participants will receive a free t-shirt for donating. To schedule an appointment, please visit

“Every three seconds, someone in the country needs blood and in order to keep up with need, hospital patients nationwide require about 44,000 donations daily,” said Andrade. “January is a critical time to give this essential gift, and just an hour of your time can impact up to three people for the rest of their lives.”
